The Digital Content Guide
What are the different platforms?
The platforms you choose to invest your time and creative energy into
will depend entirely on your unique marketing goals, the type of content you enjoy making, and where your target audience likes to hang out.
You don't need to be everywhere; you just need to be where it matters most for your brand.
Platform: or "social media platform," is the specific site or app where you post your digital content. Common examples include Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
Below you will find a general breakdown of popular social media platforms and how you would generally use them but I am a strong believer in the creativity marketing allows you. Break the rules and then you will slowly become a trend setter and now a trend chaser. Let's lean in to your most authentic self!
Note: Any specific third-party tools or social media applications mentioned in this guide
(such as Canva or Instagram) are referenced purely as examples of industry-standard resources.

Stories vs. Reels and Posts
Understanding where and how to share your video content is the key to maximizing your marketing reach. Different formats serve different psychological purposes for your audience, from immediate, intimate connection to long-term brand authority.
Stories:
The In-The-Moment Connection
Stories are temporary assets that disappear after 24 hours. Because they are fleeting, they do not require high production value. Instead, they are designed for raw, authentic, and day-to-day engagement with your most loyal followers.
-
The Strategy: High-frequency, casual, and interactive connection.
-
Best Used For: Quick announcements, real-time behind-the-scenes moments, daily greetings, interactive polls, and sharing time-sensitive updates or current promotions.
-
Platform Vocabulary: This format is called Stories across almost all major platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
Reels and Shorts:
The Algorithm Drivers
Reels are vertical, short-form videos designed to reach beyond your current following to capture new audiences. These live permanently on your profile in a dedicated video tab and are heavily pushed by platform algorithms.
-
The Strategy: High-energy or high-sensory storytelling designed for discoverability and growth.
-
Best Used For: B-roll clips, product demonstrations, quick educational tips, micro-documentaries, and highly visual aesthetic moments that capture immediate attention.
-
Platform Vocabulary: While Instagram and Facebook call these Reels, YouTube refers to them as Shorts, and TikTok simply calls them Videos or TikToks. They all share the same 9:16 vertical video format.
Feed Posts:
The Permanent Gallery
Posts are permanent fixtures on your main profile grid unless you choose to archive or delete them. Because they form the visual first impression of your brand, planning their aesthetic cohesion and layout is highly important.
-
The Strategy: Building long-term brand authority, educational content, curated visual aesthetics, and evergreen value.
-
Best Used For: Polished brand films, permanent "About Me" introductions, core product features, signature narrative stories, and landmark event announcements.
-
Platform Vocabulary: On Instagram and Facebook, these are Grid Posts (which can be carousels of photos or videos). On LinkedIn and Pinterest, these are simply referred to as Posts or Pins.
Because social media interfaces are constantly evolving, platform layouts and technical features can change overnight. For immediate technical troubleshooting, a quick online search is often the fastest way to find the most up to date solutions. Creating permanent templates for these rapid interface updates would quickly become outdated.
